Can I get some advice on how to banish negative thoughts towards life.. like what can I do to distract myself?

Let’s suppose your old grandparent is not the sweet and gentle kind but instead is the crotchety, grumpy, bitter kind of old person. They are negative about everything. We visit with them, we listen to them, and we still love them very dearly. And we know they have their reasons for being that way….but we are not about to change them into pleasant people any time soo.

So… imagine that that is you. Put your arm around your own shoulders, nod your head, give yourself a squeeze. Don’t yell, don’t shout, don’t grumble that the hard edge is there. And don’t let the grumpy person stop you from doing what you need to do.

And remember this, negative people can see reality better than an optimistic person can. Often, grumpy people are wise. Listen to the advice of the grumpy person, but don’t let them run the show. – Chuck
